Professor Dr Ataergin has expertise on the law of international and domestic transportation for all kind of modes (sea, rail, road, air and pipelines), international & domestic sales, maritime, admiralty, aviation, insurance, corporates, intellectual property, litigation, arbitration and mediation as a founding partner at A&T ataergintanriverdi law & consultancy.
He started his career as commercial yacht captain and after his graduation from the law school he started practicing law as a member of Istanbul Bar Association since 1986 in Istanbul. Later, he obtained his LL.M degree at Institute of Maritime Law, Southampton University. He also completed his PhD and later did Post Doc at Marmara University, Social Sciences Institute.
Currently Professor Ataergin practices in maritime & trade consultancy business at ``Consultant Wise Maritime Trade & Training`` in the UK. He, additionally, has involved in the international & domestic arbitration as an arbitrator at LMAA since 1997 and at CIArb since 2011 in London market.
Law School Shanghai Maritime University (CHINA), Istanbul U Marine Sciences Ins, Marmara U Faculty of Law, Piri Reis Maritime U, Gaziantep U Law School, Istanbul Maritime Ins (Turkey) are among the places he has taught. He was in Southampton University Institute of Maritime Law between Jan 2011 and Dec 2011 and Jan 2014 - Sep 2014 as visitor for research purposes. He is also visiting academic at City University Law School for the period between Dec 2014 and April 2015. He has been the Dean of the Law School at Near East University in Cyprus since January 2016.
He is a high rank arbitrator at STK (Insurance Arbitration Commission) on insurance disputes and a court official expert witness on trade & shipping issues in Turkish Republic.
Professor Ataergin represents a number of corporates and/or individuals domestically and internationally and is appointed as average adjustor and ship/yacht evaluation expert in the shipping industry.
